Inspired by Liz Howard's own family experiences, the story follows a young boy growing up in Brooklyn as he begins to notice that his family looks different from some of the families around him. With love, reassurance, and a little help from the idea of a mixed bag of nuts, he learns that being a mix of different backgrounds is something special to celebrate.

Liz Howard welcomes opportunities to visit schools, libraries, and community programs to connect with young readers. During an age-appropriate visit, Liz can share the personal inspiration behind A Mixed Nut Like Me and talk with children about family, belonging, kindness, confidence, and appreciating the differences that make each of us unique.
